Two shot at Opelika gas station

An early morning armed robbery at an Opelika gas station took a turn for the worst when two armed robbers began opening fire inside the gas station. As the smoke cleared two victims lay in the gas station wounded as the robbers fled the scene.

Opelika Police indicate they responded to the call of a shooting at the 280 Marathon gas station located at 1100 Columbus Parkway in Opelika about 2:55 a.m. on Monday morning. When officers arrived, they discovered two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds at the gas station. Opelika police began to provide first aid to the victims until paramedics with the Opelika Fire Department arrived.

As paramedics assessed the victims they discovered the extent of the injuries of both victims. One victim with less threatening injuries was taken by ambulance to East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika. The second victim was wounded more severely and had to be air-lifted to Midtown Medical Center in Columbus, Georgia for what officers describe as life-threatening injuries.

Opelika Police were able to gather surveillance footage from the gas station which put them in the correct direction of the robbers. The footage showed officer three individuals robbed the gas station. Officers indicate the three drove up to the gas station as two exited the vehicle with firearms and entered the business. The third robber stayed behind in the vehicle as a driver.

The two robbers who entered the business demanded cash while inside the store. After their demands for the money, the suspects began discharging their firearms inside the business. The pair of robbers then fled the business with an undisclosed amount of money They returned to the waiting getaway vehicle and fled the gas station in an unknown direction.

The surveillance footage released by police show the two suspects were black males, one had a dark colored hoodie on with a baseball cap logo. The second suspect wore blue hoodie, white shirt, dark colored pants, and white shoes. The getaway vehicle is described as a dark colored vehicle with a sunroof and spoiler in the rear. The vehicle was a four-door vehicle.
