Valley man drowns in Lake Harding

A 57-year-old Val-
ley man died shortly
after cutting the grass
in his yard on Saturday
evening. Local officials
are conducting a death
investigation into what
is being ruled an acci-
dental drowning on Lake
Harding.
According to the
Lee County Coroner’s
Office, sheriff’s depu

ties were dispatched to
a residence on Lee Road
785 in reference to a
911 call. At 7:30 p.m. a
call was received by the
Lee County emergency
communications cen-
ter reporting a possible
drowning on the lake.
Lee County Sheriff’s
Department officials
arrived in addition to
Beulah Fire and Rescue
and East Alabama Medi-
cal Center EMS to the
lake just minutes after
the call. A search began
immediately upon the
arrival of first responders
to the lake.
After about a 50-min-
utes search of the lake,
the body of 57-year-old
Mark Frazer Sinks, of
Valley was located just a
few feet from the shore-
line by a paramedic with
East Alabama EMS. The
Lee County Coroner’s
Office was dispatched to
the scene and Coroner
Bill Harris pronounced
Sinks dead on the scene
at 8:55 p.m.
Reports indicate that
Sinks went into the water
shortly after cutting the
grass in his yard. After
his wife was unable to
locate him she called
911. No other details
have been released about
the death at this time.
The body was sent to
Alabama Department
of Forensic Sciences
in Montgomery for an
autopsy
