Wadley – Gemelia Welch of Opelika was recently crowned Homecoming Queen during Southern Union State Community College’s homecoming celebration.
Welch is the daughter of Gregory Welch and Tracey Ware. Welch attends Southern Union on a cheerleading scholarship. Welch is also involved in Student Government Association and serves as a Residence Hall Council. Other members of Southern Union’s Homecoming court were Zoe Arrington of Woodland, Alexis Moore of Moody, and Leah Stinespring of Flowery Branch. The candidates were nominated by the members of the student body. The queen was selected based on popular vote among the student body.
Southern Union is the second oldest community college in Alabama. With campuses in Wadley, Opelika and Valley, the college is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associates degrees.
