By Alton Mitchell

The West Point Police Department is investigating another shooting in the small Georgia city that borders Chambers County. The shooting is the latest in a string of shootings that have plagued West Point this summer and has left one-woman dead.

According to West Point Police shots were fired in the 1200 block of 12th Street on Tuesday afternoon around 3:15 p.m. The shots that rang out on the residential street left one person injured in a public housing complex. That unidentified victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The victim is listed in stable condition at the hospital.

West Point Police quickly began their investigation into the shooting and were able to quickly identify a suspect. That suspect has been identified as Danmarquez Griggs of West Point. Griggs turned himself in to authorities on Wednesday afternoon. He was booked into the Troup County Jail on charges of aggravated assault and aggravated battery.

The shooting is the latest in a string of violence and gun related violence that has engulf West Point since May when Sherika Trammell was fatally shot on East 12th Street in a drive-by shooting. The violence has continued as West Point Police have investigated at least three other shootings in the area two of which occurred in the 12th Street area.

West Point Police ask anyone with any information about this shooting to contact the department as (706)645-3551.
