LAFAYETTE — AuburnBank is holding a Path to Home Ownership Seminar on Tuesday, June 23, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Pearl Event Center. Locals are invited to come and learn about the advantages of home ownership.
Discussion topics will include understanding credit ratings and down payment assistance programs. Refreshments will be served, and there will be door prizes. RSVP to April Herring at (334) 887-4658 or Aherring@auburnbank.com.
April Herring, senior vice president of the Mortgage Division for AuburnBank, said the Path to Home Ownership is a program that AuburnBank offers and is geared toward anyone who wants to purchase a home, understand their credit plus get information about down payment assistance programs, mortgage pre-approval and the home-buying process in general.
“It just gives them a step-by-step guide on what to expect, what documents they need, what they need to work on, if they have credit issues, if they don't have money saved up and if they have questions about how much money it takes or how much money they need for the process,” she said. “We go through all of that, we talk about any grants that are available to them, any down payment assistance programs that are available, along with any local funds or grants that are provided by any organizations that can help them.”
Herring said AuburnBank works with organizations to help connect attendees with additional resources and information.
“We work with the Alabama Housing Finance Authority, where they offer some really good programs for first-time Homebuyers or low to moderate income buyers,” she said. “So they have some programs that have really good rates that we talk to them about. We also work with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta, which has grant money for first-time Homebuyers, and so that's basically what we'll be going over with anybody who attends the path to homeownership seminar.”
Herring said she wants to encourage anyone interested in purchasing a home in the next couple of years to attend the seminar.
“It's for anybody who's looking [for a house] now and into the next five years, and then they can work on whatever they need to work on, saving money or getting their credit fixed or repaired or even getting credit,” she said. “A lot of people don't even have credit, and they don't know how to establish it, and so that's one of the things that we're excited about to share with people who don't have an opportunity to hear about things like this in a smaller area.”
AuburnBank is partnering with LaFayette Main Street to offer this event. Executive Director of LaFayette Main Street DeAnna Hand shared her excitement for the seminar.
“We are especially excited about this seminar because we’re seeing more young families and professionals choosing to move back to LaFayette and put down roots in our community,” she said. “That is incredibly encouraging for the future of our city. Homeownership plays a major role in supporting local businesses and strengthening our local economy. By partnering with AuburnBank to offer this First-Time Homebuyers Seminar, we hope to provide valuable information and resources that help make the dream of owning a home more achievable for those looking to build their future here in LaFayette. It’s an exciting time for our community, and we’re proud to be part of opportunities that help families invest in LaFayette’s future.”
Herring said this event reflects AuburnBank’s mission to help the community.
“One of the number one things that we pride ourselves in is helping the community, and we feel like this program really impacts the community and the home ownership process,” she said. “The reason it's so important to us is that it's just another avenue that we can offer our community to be able to make their dreams of owning a home come true.”
