CHAMBERS COUNTY — Chambers County residents now have access to affordable spay and neuter services through CARE Humane Society’s SNYP+ program, an initiative aimed at reducing pet overpopulation and helping families obtain veterinary care for their dogs and cats.
The program, SNYP+, which stands for Spay Neuter Your Pets, was originally available to Lee County residents but has expanded into Chambers, Macon and Tallapoosa counties following fundraising and organizational efforts by CARE Humane Society.
Patti Tole, who oversees community programs and donor relations for CARE Humane Society, said the organization is excited to make the program available to more families.
Qualifying households with a total annual income of $50,000 or less can apply for reduced-cost spay and neuter services. Applicants must provide a photo ID, phone number, current utility bill and either a 2025 federal tax return or 2026 benefit statements for all household members.
Applications are available online at www.www.carehumane.org/low-cost-spay-neuter.
Once an application is complete, CARE Humane Society will schedule an appointment for the applicant to visit its Auburn shelter, review program requirements and sign a voucher.
Applicants can then schedule their pet’s surgery directly with one of the 18 veterinary clinics participating in the program. Surgery must be completed within 45 days of receiving the voucher.
Under the program, the cost is $15 for cats and $25 for dogs. A rabies vaccination is available for $15, and microchipping is provided free of charge. Pet owners pay the applicable fees directly to the veterinary clinic at the time of surgery.
One of the participating clinics is Lanett Animal Clinic, where Dr. Meredith Thomas has partnered with CARE Humane Society since the SNYP+ program began.
Although the clinic has participated in the program since its inception, the expansion into Chambers County means local residents can now take advantage of the discounted services without having to travel outside the county for their pets’ procedures.
Tole said the partnership also provides an opportunity for families to establish a relationship with a local veterinarian who can help meet their pets’ ongoing healthcare needs.
Each qualifying applicant may receive one voucher at a time. Once a voucher has been redeemed, additional vouchers may be issued, one at a time, as long as funding remains available.
Donations needed
The program’s continued availability depends on donations.
CARE Humane Society is seeking support from individuals and businesses in Chambers County to help sustain the program and make the services available to more pet owners.
Donations designated specifically for Chambers County’s SNYP+ program can be made online at weblink.donorperfect.com/SNYP PLUSCHAMBERS.
The organization also accepts donations by cash, check and Venmo. Donors should specify that their contributions are intended for the Chambers County program.
According to CARE Humane Society, affordable spay and neuter services can help prevent unwanted litters, reduce the number of stray and abandoned animals and ease the burden on animal shelters.
The organization also recognizes that many families face competing financial demands, including housing, utilities, groceries and transportation, which can make routine veterinary procedures difficult to afford.
By reducing those costs, the SNYP+ program aims to help families care for their pets while addressing animal overpopulation in the community.
