Chambers Commission hears 2026 legislative update

CHAMBERS COUNTY — At the Feb. 9 Chambers County Commission meeting District 4 Commissioner Sam Bradford shared information from the 2026 County Legislative Report.
“Through its involvement in the Association of County Commissioners of Alabama, the County Commission works in unison with Alabama counties during the regular session of the state legislature to strengthen our ability to enhance county government efficiencies and services residents,” he said. “In just the first week of February, the County Commission’s legislative advocacy efforts, through continued communication and collaboration with state legislatures and fellow commissioners across Alabama, have resulted in the following legislative achievements for the county and our residents and the state as a whole.”
In Other Business
• The commission voted to approve the minutes and warrants payable for Feb. 2.
• The commission voted to approve the agenda, adding an item from Sheriff Jeff Nelson and removing item A from Dr. Hollie Cost to revisit at a later date.
• The commission voted to approve funding to install sensors to monitor the health of inmates in the jail.
• The commission voted to reappoint Jeremy Johnson to the Chambers County Development Authority Board of Directors for a four-year term to expire April, 29, 2030 and waive the second reading of said appointment.
• The commission voted to authorize supervised use of the Courthouse restrooms for Valley Haven Day, on April 11.
• The commission approved the Ajin request for a project agreement amendment.
• The commission voted to declare Equipment No. 601, 602 and 603 (2025 Mack GR64F Tri Axle Dump Trucks, purchased in December of 2024) for surplus, in order to sell at the September 2025 or March 2026 JM Wood Auction.
• The commission approved the purchase of three new current production model Ox 16-foot Stampede Dump Truck Bodies from Ox Bodies, Inc. through the Association of County Commissions of Alabama’s Joint Bid and financing with Farmers and Merchants Bank.
• The commission voted to purchase three new current production model Peterbilt 567 Dump Chassis from the Association of County Commissions of Alabama’s Joint Bid and financing with Farmers and Merchants Bank.
• The commission voted to declare Equipment No. 604 (2026 Mack PI64T Lo Boy Tractor, purchased in October of 2025) for surplus in order of sale at the September 2025 or March JM Wood Auction.
• The commission approved the purchase of one new current production model Mack Pinnacle 64T Low Boy Tractors from the Association of County Commissions of Alabama’s Joint Bid and financing with Farmers and Merchants Bank.
Announcements
• The next regularly scheduled Commission Meeting will be held in the small courtroom at 4 p.m. on Monday, March 2.
• The Courthouse will be closed on Monday, Feb. 16, in observance of Presidents Day.
