Chambers County School District ready for a new year

CHAMBERS COUNTY — Chambers County School District Superintendent Sharon Weldon shared a message of confident readiness during her report at the Board of Education meeting in LaFayette on Wednesday, Aug. 5.

“Our teacher positions are all fully staffed,” Weldon said. “I want to say there are school systems all over the place, and anybody in education knows this, that right now they are looking for teachers. They have got positions they were not able to fill.

“We are blessed, but I think also it reflects a whole lot of hard work by everybody. By people in the community that are encouraging folks to come back to Chambers County and to work at home. To our principals who have just rolled up their sleeves and been working and searching. Our directors, it has been lots of different people involved in doing that.”

Weldon also praised the efforts of back-to-school bash events in the past few weeks to provide students with free school supplies. 

“If you did not get to go to back-to-school bashes, my gracious, our kids should be equipped, fired up and excited,” Weldon said. “LaFayette had one on one weekend and then in Valley, they had one the next weekend. I know there has been a video that was shared; it was awesome just seeing the different schools all come together, celebrate and be united. It was good for the adults, the kids enjoyed it, but I think for all of the adults there we were like, ‘Oh my gosh, look at what is happening.’ I was thankful for all of the organizations.”

In other business:

There was a motion approved for all routine personnel changes.

Approved overnight and/or out-of-state field trips for Alabama High School Athletics, as well as Career Technical Student Organizations for the 2026-27 school year were approved.

Overnight and/or out-of-state field trips for Valley High School and W.F. Burns Middle School students, as well as two Valley High School band students, were approved.

Lisa Hadaway was approved as the 2026-27 Sick Bank chairperson.

A low bid was approved for Child Nutrition Program substitute staffing services.

The Child Nutrition Program procurement plan for 2026-27 was approved.
