VALLEY — Local officials and members of the community gathered for a grand opening and ribbon cutting event sponsored by the Greater Valley Area Chamber of Commerce at the Extra Mile Chevron service station on Fob James Drive in Valley on Friday, April 24. Attendees enjoyed free food giveaways, non-stop music provided by a live DJ along with raffle prizes.

“[Extra Mile Chevron owner] K.B. invited us all out today for his grand reopening and rebrand, it is now Extra Mile Chevron,” said Greater Valley Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Carrie Wood. “So we just want to encourage everyone to come out and support K.B., support this business. He cares about our community and we can’t be more thankful for him and his family. [We are thnakful for] his entrepreneurship and what he brings to not only Valley but to Chambers County.”

Wood said it is important for locals to support their community business owners.

“Any time that a store rebrands and gets a face lift, those are the places that we want to go in and it causes excitement for other businesses to do the same,” she said. “We want to make sure that we show our appreciation for him. You walk in, and not all gas stations are clean. Not all gas stations have the quality of food that he has. Maybe you’re not just getting gas, but once you get inside it is clean and you can go to a nice restroom.”

Valley City Council Member for District 1 Jim Clark was also in attendance and shared his excitement for the growth of Extra Mile Chevron.

“K.B. is having a ribbon cutting for his newly renamed service station and convenience store,” he said. “They have been open a while but they have a good crowd here and a lot of things going on. A lot of free items, food and he is spending a lot of money here today and I know he is going to be real successful here.”

Clark said this upgrade is a reflection of  K.B.’s continual improvement and investment in the community and local economy.

“It is great, I am sure this is going to increase their sales,” he said. “Of course he is involved in a lot of other things. He has got a place for 53 houses across the road and he has got half a dozen built already. Soon they are supposed to be opening a Beef O’Bradys and a Scooter’s across the road and we are really looking forward to that. He and his partners are really spending a lot of money in our community and we appreciate that.”
