CHAMBERS COUNTY — The Chambers County Commission held a special-called meeting on Oct. 12, voting to make the Alabama Farmers Federation Building available as overflow space for the county court system following an executive session.

All six commissioners and County Attorney Skip McCoy were present for the 2 p.m. meeting, which had a single agenda item: pending litigation.

Immediately following the approval of the agenda, the commission entered an executive session to discuss the matter.

Upon returning to regular open session with no action taken behind closed doors, McCoy presented a recommendation to authorize backup facilities for local judicial operations.

“At this point in time, the commission would consider a motion to allow the utilization of the Alfa Building at 1006 Avenue A Southeast [in] LaFayette as additional courtroom space and additional office space, in the event that the court system has a need for that,” McCoy said.

McCoy said the agreement is contingent upon the court system providing the county reasonable notice to ensure facility availability and coordinate necessary security measures before using the space.

The commission voted unanimously to approve the motion before promptly adjourning.
