Heartfelt gratitude
CONTRIBUTED TO THE LAFAYETTE SUN
OPINION —
Dear Editor,
My name is Barbara Love, and I am a resident of LaFayette.
On May 19, 2026, my life changed in an instant when a fire destroyed my home. Along with my house, I lost a lifetime of belongings, cherished memories and so many things that can never be replaced.
In the midst of such a heartbreaking experience, I discovered something truly extraordinary — the kindness, compassion and generosity of the people in our community.
I would like to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who has reached out to me with love, prayers, encouragement and support during this difficult time. Every thoughtful gesture, no matter how small, has meant more to me than words can express.
I especially want to recognize the Oak Bowery Fire Department and its Ladies Auxiliary, who have been an incredible blessing to me from the very beginning.
From the moment tragedy struck, they stepped forward with open hearts and helping hands. Their kindness did not end when the fire was extinguished. They have continued to check on me, stay in touch and offer their unwavering support every step of the way. They have never made me feel forgotten or alone.
It is difficult to put into words what that kind of compassion means to me. These wonderful men and women have shown me that being part of a volunteer fire department is about far more than responding to emergencies. It is about neighbors caring for neighbors and a community coming together when someone needs it most.
Although I have lost my home and so many possessions, I have gained a deeper appreciation for the extraordinary people who surround me.
To the Oak Bowery Fire Department, the Ladies Auxiliary and every person who has offered a helping hand, a kind word or a prayer, please know that your generosity and compassion will never be forgotten.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you. You have reminded me that even in the darkest moments, there is still so much goodness in this world.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Barbara Love
