LaFayette celebrates basketball success on the Square
Community members gathered in downtown LaFayette to celebrate and recognize the LaFayette High School and Chambers Academy boys basketball teams and their 2025-26 seasons on March 26. The Rebels finished with a 15-6 record and won the school’s second boys basketball state championship with a 45-41 win over Springwood School in the AISA AA title game. The Alabama Sports Writers Association included junior guard Christian Terry on its all-state second team and named head coach Jason Allen as its AISA boys’ head coach of the year. The Bulldogs concluded the year with a 27-8 record and ended as AHSAA 2A state tournament runners-up after losing 54-42 to Section High School in the championship game. Senior guard Amilleon Huguley made the ASWA boys’ 2A all-state first team, and junior forward Jayden Thomason made the third team. “As a town, we’re incredibly proud of these two teams and the success they’ve achieved this season,” Executive Director of LaFayette Main Street DeAnna Hand said. “We know the dedication and hard work they’ve put in all year, and we’re excited to celebrate every one of them. We also want to recognize and thank their coaches for the time, commitment and leadership they pour into these young men. Our town is a special place that celebrates our youth and encourages continued success.” PHOTO BY PAMELA HOLLOWAY, FOR THE LAFAYETTE SUN
