LAFAYETTE — At the June 22 LaFayette City Council Meeting, the council approved regular business and heard an update on upcoming events from LaFayette Main Street.
Alison Frazier, an engineer with BSI Engineering, presented information on her firm and her experience working with municipal projects, with the possibility of working with the city of LaFayette for its engineering projects.
“I just came to introduce myself, our firm, and would love the opportunity to work with the city of LaFayette on any general engineering, also that includes water, sewer, sidewalks, parks, bike ways, roadway resurfacing, street assessments, kind of your general engineering, as well as facilities management,” she said. “We have a few municipal projects going on now. We have CDBG projects, we've got a DRA project and we’re working with the city of Tuskegee on an ARC project. So, we just kind of have the whole gamut of things going on.”
City Council Member for District C Toney Thomas said the Juneteenth event on June 19 was a success, and he is thankful for those who played a part in organizing it.
“I just want to say that our third annual Juneteenth event was another success,” he said. “It was really good. Just want to thank all the department heads and everyone who played a part in organizing this event this year. Hopefully, we can incorporate a couple of different plans that will make it even better.”
Executive Director of LaFayette Main Street DeAnna Hand shared her excitement for the upcoming Back-To-School Food Truck Festival and encouraged the community to attend and mark the date of the event when announced.
“We're looking forward to our Back-To-School Food Truck Festival,” she said. “We don't have the exact dates, we're trying to check with a lot of the food truck vendors and ball game schedules and make sure it doesn't interfere with anything. We're hoping towards the first of August rather than the latter part of August, because that's when football really starts going. I will hopefully have that date by the next council meeting, and get to planning that, and hopefully the community will continue to come out and celebrate together.”
