CHAMBERS COUNTY — The Chambers County Library Travelers will have the opportunity to dress up in their best sports attire, celebrate seniors and enjoy a day of fun.Chambers County Library Director Mary Hamilton said the upcoming day will include lunch, vendors, giveaways and door prizes to make memories and connections for community members.
“On May 7, the Travelers will again be headed to the May Day Event sponsored by the East Alabama Area Agency on Aging,” she said. “May Day is held annually at the event center at the Motorsports Hall of Fame in Talladega to celebrate Older Americans Month. This year’s theme is “Serving Up Solutions.” The East Alabama Area Agency on Aging asks to limit attendees to those aged 60 and older since the activities are geared toward senior adults.
“Several vendors that provide services specifically for seniors will be on hand with informational materials as well as giveaways for attendees. Live music is provided by husband and wife duo Alabama Rain, and a lunch is provided at no cost… The cost for going with the Chambers County Library on this trip is only $5. Sign up for the trip begins on Monday, April 20. To reserve a seat on the bus, stop by Bradshaw Library or give us a call at (334) 768-2161.”
Hamilton said this trip is part of a series of opportunities for locals to travel to interesting locations for an affordable price.
“The Chambers County Library provides travel opportunities for adults through the Chambers County Library Travelers program,” she said. “Day trips to historical and cultural sites in Alabama and Georgia are planned by the library staff, who reserve a comfortable motorcoach bus for the excursions. Seats are reserved on a first-come basis.”
For those looking for other options for adults at the Chambers County Libraries, Hamilton said there are other fun events held regularly for locals to enjoy.
“The Library Travelers program is just one of many adult programs offered at Chambers County Library,” she said. “Our programs are free and open to the public and include a weekly Game Day for Grown Ups and chair yoga led by Traci Martin. Monthly programs include basket making, Lunch N Learn, Fun Friday and crafts.”
