LAFAYETTE — LaFayette High School will be well represented at the upcoming 2A State Track and Field Championships after a strong showing at the 1A-2A Section 2 sectional meet held April 24-25 at Loachapoka High School.

While neither the girls’ and or boys’ teams finished in the top three overall at sectionals, the Bulldogs punched multiple tickets to the state meet with qualifiers spanning sprints, hurdles, jumps, throws and relays.

On the track, Jaiden Lacey led the way with a busy and productive two days, qualifying in both the boys’ 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles after claiming third-place finishes in both events.

Saban Chambers will represent LHS in the 400-meter dash after a fourth-place finish, and the boys’ 4x100 relay team added another state berth with a third-place showing.

On the field and in the sand pit, Jayden Thomason and Kamare Harrington also provided the Bulldogs with a strong one-two punch in the boys’ high jump, finishing second and third, respectively.

Additionally, Cameron Thomas earned a spot in the triple jump to round out the leaping events.

In the boys’ shot put, Ty’Kaden Williams earned a second-place finish, while teammate Tyquavious Gates also secured a qualifying spot.

On the girls’ side, the Lady Bulldogs also qualified numerous athletes in track and field events.

Individually, Shakearia Moore qualified in the 200-meter dash with a fourth-place finish, Jakalia Cammon finished fourth in the long jump and De’Azia Avery qualified in the discus throw.

As a team, LHS’s girls’ 4x100-meter relay team also secured a state meet berth, finishing third in Loachapoka.

With qualifiers in 13 individual and relay events across both teams, LHS will carry plenty of momentum into the state meet as the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs look to make some noise on the biggest stage in 2A track and field.
