LAFAYETTE — Costume up to consume candy, LaFayette Main Street is hosting its fourth annual Trunk or Treat event on Oct. 30 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

“We are inviting all to join us for our fourth annual Trunk or Treat,” said LaFayette Main Street Executive Director DeAnna Hand. “This is going to be held downtown, and it is a safe, fun environment for the kids to enjoy dressing up in their cutest costumes and getting lots of candy from participating churches, individuals, different organizations and our small businesses that might have a trunk, and we really encourage people to come out and enjoy.”

Hand said hosting the Trunk or Treat in downtown LaFayette allows kids and families to trick or treat without having to drive all around town.

“It has been just very much appreciated by a lot of the different residents and community members here because it’s one location where they can come and get lots of candy and walk downtown without having to drive around to different homes and houses,” she said.

For those interested in decorating a truck for the event, Hand said there is no fee for participating, but participants should sign up to have a trunk on the LaFayette Main Street event page.

It’s really just something that we enjoy putting on for different people to participate,” she said. “The LaFayette Fire Department always comes out, dresses up and brings an ambulance. They just make it fun …. Sheriff Jeff Nelson always brings out the pink Camaro, or the hot pink car, for people to get pictures in front of that. And that’s always fun. The kids love to see the breast cancer hot pink sheriff’s car.”

Hand said even those at LaFayette Main Street join in on the fun.

“Our LaFayette Main Street board of directors and volunteers dressed up, and it just gets the community excited about the spirit of being together, celebrating enjoyable times and having that interaction young and old,” she said.

For those who want to participate in the event outside of setting up a trunk, Hand said LaFayette Main Street is looking for volunteers.

“We would love volunteers to sign up,” she said. “We’ll be posting a sign-up soon on our look at Main Street Facebook, if they would like to help with set up and trunk organization, or volunteer at our LaFayette Main Street trunk or table to give candy, then we would love to have them.”

Ultimately, Hand said the LaFayette Trunk or Treat is a way for the community to come together and enjoy the spirit of Halloween.

“I really think it just allows people to come together and enjoy one another, and have a little bit more lighter fun,” she said. “The world is so heavy, and there are so many things that we’re seeing right now in our world. I think that just getting people out and bringing them together to visit, love on one another and laugh together is so important, because it is. And this allows the kids to interact with one another, maybe meet people that they possibly didn’t know before and just get our community together.”
