LaFayette youth highlight: Spencer Newman

LAFAYETTE — Spencer Newman is a lifelong resident of LaFayette and an original student at Chambers Academy, where he began in daycare. He started playing peewee football in the second grade and became a kicker in the eighth grade. Throughout his career, he played both offense and defense and was part of three consecutive state championship games during his 10th, 11th and 12th grade years.
He was nominated to play in Gatlinburg and competed during his 10th, 11th and 12th grade years, earning the “Hambone” Award for Top Offensive Lineman in his junior year and the “Bulldog” Award for Top Lineman in his senior year.
LaFayette holds a special place in his heart, known for its small-town charm and unmatched atmosphere. Spencer is the first football player in Chambers Academy history to receive and sign a Division I scholarship. He will continue his football career at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky, in the fall.
