LAFAYETTE — LaFayette Main Street represents a shared goal for community members to improve downtown LaFayette’s economic spirit. Recently, the nonprofit kicked off its new fiscal year by announcing the 2026-27 Board of Directors. Composed of local business owners, young community leaders and economic development professionals, the board strives to strengthen downtown prosperity.
Ericka McCullough, office manager at the Chambers County Development Authority, is a new member of the LaFayette Main Street Board of Directors who has hopes of bringing her expertise in economic development to the position.
“The Main Street board focuses on design, economic vitality, promotion of the downtown area and structure of the downtown economic base,” McCullough said.
New board members are sought out and voted on by standing Main Street board members. Once new members are elected, monthly board meetings ensue to begin project planning for the downtown area.
“I wanted to join the board to help citizens and downtown local business owners come together, to support local business owners and the services in the downtown area, boost the economic travel of the area, improve designs and promote the different districts to enhance economic base,” McCullough said.
Serving in her role as office manager at the Chambers County Development Authority since 2023, McCullough said she feels her knowledge of economic growth principles can help guide the board on commercial revitalization in the downtown LaFayette area.
“We recruit industries for the entire Chambers County area, so projects are always ongoing,” McCullough said. “To have the opportunity to bring industry and businesses to our county and revitalize the county from an economic standpoint to make Chambers County a better place for our citizens is what makes me most proud.”
Born and raised in Lanett, she said she understands the need for commercial and industrial growth in a small town.
“Our continuous goals on the Main Street board are to build community buy-in, recruit volunteers, support downtown renovation and facade improvement projects, and to encourage private and public investment,” McCullough said. “We’re always looking for ideas from the public to help revitalize the area for the citizens that are currently there, future residents and local businesses.”
McCullough also serves as a board member of the Valley Haven Board of Directors as well as the Interfaith Food Closet Board of Directors.
“Serving on other boards has given me a chance to build that essential governance,” McCullough said. “In my job as office manager, I do have financial oversight and community networking skills. I think those skills could directly translate to having an effective position on the Main Street board.”
