JOHN WOOD

A funeral service for John Wood, 67, of LaFayette, was held Monday, July 14, at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church located at 3075 County Road 147 in Wadley, with interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Douglas Jones, Pastor and the Rev. Calvin Trammell, Eulogist officiated the services.

Mr. Wood, who passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama, was born Dec. 13, 1957, in Randolph County, Alabama.

He leaves to cherish his memory: parents, Mary (James) Turner of Five Points, Alabama; a devoted companion, Ruby Whitlow of LaFayette; six children, Tiffany (Jason) Bell of Opelika, Jessica (Gabriel) Lockhart of LaFayette, Kristen McGowan (Demetric Wilson) of Oxford, Alabama, Marcus Whitlow, LaCourtney Williams both of LaFayette and Jacorey Williams of Piedmont, Alabama; two sisters, Dr. Gloria Wood of Land O’ Lakes, Florida and Jennifer Wood of Birmingham; step-brother, Eddie Turner of Roanoke, Alabama; two step-sisters, Pamela Turner of LaGrange, Georgia and Tammy (Jerico) Floyd of Lanett; one aunt, Catherine Dennis of Nashville, Tennessee; one uncle, Hubert Staples of Chicago, Illinois; one sister-in-law, Sharon Elaine Wood of Alexander City, Alabama; one niece, Crystal (Steven) Buchanan of Nashville; bonus children, Pamela (Terrance) Holloway, Tameka (Maurice) Whitlow, Latricia (Michael) Whitlow, Kelvin (Jackquline) Whitlow and Courtney (Aldrianna) Whitlow; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
