MELISSA A. SLAUGHTER

Ms. Melissa Ann Slaughter of Lanett, Alabama, passed away at her home on Oct. 6, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born on July 25, 1955. in Memphis, Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Byron Clifford Slaughter; mother Nell Miller; father Sonny Jones; and aunt Leah Harrington.

Ms. Slaughter graduated from Marshall Metro High School in Chicago, Illinois.

She worked in the food industry as a cashier and as a custodian at Naperville North High School in Illinois.

She enjoyed playing pickleball, swimming and participating in activities at the Active Life in LaGrange, Georgia.

Survivors include her daughters, Washina Devon Slaughter and Christina Denise (Jody) Posey; six granddaughters, Leah Symone Collins, Hanna Rodriguez, Veronica Devon Collins, Catherine Melissa Slaughter, Abigail Jody Posey and Olivia Marie Posey; one great-grandson, Truth; and one great-granddaughter, Harvest.

The family respectfully requests that donations in memory of Ms. Slaughter be made to her daughters, Washina Devon Slaughter and Christina Denise Posey.

Visitation for Melissa Ann Slaughter was held on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m., with the funeral following at 2 p.m. at Valley-Point Funeral Home in Lanett. The Pastor Kelsy Barnes officiated.

Valley-Point Funeral Home and Cremation in Lanett assisted the family with arrangements.
