VALLEY — Valley Police Chief Stacy Shirey announced the promotion of four of his police officers during the council meeting on Monday, April 27.
“So we had a few more promotions,” he said. “These guys have just been promoted to corporal which [means] they will start assisting shift supervisors and at times they will be a supervisor themselves. It is customary that one of us place the pin or a family member [places the pin]. So I think tonight we have got a few wives that are going to pin. Officer Longshore, Officer Chavez, Officer Graben and Officer Billingsley, they will be promoted from officer to corporal tonight.”
Later in the meeting City Clerk Kathy Snowden gave a first reading for an amendment to ordinance number 2025-004.
“Whereas the city of Valley, Alabama did heretofore pass and adopt ordinance number 2025-004 in March 10, 2025 wherein the city agreed to convey several real properties belonging to the city to adjacent land owners,” she said. “Whereas one of the transactions contemplated by the aforesaid ordinance was consummated in certain real estate lot number six conveyed. And whereas the second transaction contemplated by the aforesaid ordinance namely a transfer to Guy Stone and Sarah Stone lot number two has not been completed or closed despite the readiness of the city to close such transaction and actual preparation of closing documents. And whereas over one year has passed since the adoption of ordinance 2025-004 and the preparation of closing documents without action on the part of the persons to whom the subject property was to be conveyed. The city decides to rescind the said ordinance in part so as to retain ownership of the subject property.”
Following the first reading of the amendment to the ordinance the council approved a motion to suspend the rules and subsequently voted to approve the amendment immediately.
