LAFAYETTE — Chambers Academy’s basketball teams wrapped up regular-sea- son play against Spring- wood with mixed results Tuesday night, highlight- ed by a dominant varsity boys win that kept the Rebels’ area title hopes alive.
JV Girls
The JV Lady Rebels traveled to Springwood to face the Wildcats for the second game in their series. Peyton Stanford opened up the game, scoring the opening basket for the JV Lady Rebels, and McKinley Hendricks followed up with a three, but Springwood forced turnovers for quick buckets to put Chambers behind 5-16 at the end of the first.
Kennedy Perry hit three baskets under the goal in the second, but Springwood answered with a pair of threes to keep a 13-24 lead at the half. After trailing 18-39 in the third, Stanford hit back-to-back threes to cut the lead to 14, but the JV Lady Rebels couldn’t overcome the deficit and fell 29-45. Up next, the JV Lady Rebels will head into the state tour- nament as the number five seed.
JV Boys
After trading baskets for the first 3 minutes, the JV Rebels took con- trol, leading 32-8 at the end of the first. It was all CA in the second quarter as the Rebels led 48-16 at the half. Roper Pollard pulled a quick three to start the second half, and Chambers never looked back, rolling to a 54-26 win.
Bentley Terry was the leading scorer with 12 points, followed by Braxton Terry and Tounchie Taylor with nine points each. Cooper Earl added seven points. The JV Rebels will travel to the state tournament on Saturday as the number three seed.
Varsity Girls
After falling by just two points to the Wild- cats days before, the Lady Rebels had trouble getting shots to fall in the first and just couldn’t find their rhythm, trailing 4-15 at the end of the period. Chambers’ defense held Springwood to just six points in the second, but the offense continued to struggle as the only basket came from Emmalee Jackson to make the score 6-21 at the half.
Trenise Tigner was a force on defense, stealing the ball and returning it down the court for points in the third, but a fourth quarter surge led Springwood over the Lady Reb- els 18-55. Jackson was the leading scorer for the Lady Rebels.
Varsity Boys
Chambers picked up a win on Tuesday over Success Unlimited to move to 1-2 in the area.
To keep their area hopes alive, the Rebels had to not only beat Springwood, but they also had to win by at least 19 points. With that tall order in front of them, the Rebels took the floor in a hostile, rivalry environment. Chambers went on a 9-0 run to start the game. Springwood put some points on the board, but Chambers continued to dominate on both ends of the court leading 15-7 at the end of the first.
Hunter Andrews pulled a three to start the sec- ond. Christian Terry fol- lowed up with a steal and score. Not to be outdone by his brother, Braxton Terry took a rebound all the way to the house. Jake Reames made his
presence known on court as he took the Rebels
to a 21 point lead at the half.
Springwood started a comeback in the third, but a Reames’ three halted that and switched the momentum back
to Chambers as the Rebels led 65-45 going into the final period of play. Knowing the point differential that they had to maintain, the Rebels refused to let up as they captured a big 88-57 win. Chambers never trailed in the contest.
Jake Reames had a huge night scoring 33 points. Braxton Terry followed with 14 points, and Christian Terry added 10 points. Bryce Modeling scored nine points in the victory.
