LAFAYETTE — Chambers Academy basketball teams put together a strong week on the court, with the JV and varsity squads collecting multiple wins against Trinity, Coosa Valley, Southern and Lowndes.

Chambers JV Girls

The JV girls picked up a big win over Trinity last week. Kennedy Perry put Chambers in the lead early with a shot under the goal. Maddie Howard recorded two steals, and Addison Tenpenny added another basket to make the score 4-0 at the end of the first. Ayden Dukes knocked down a free throw to kick off the second period, and Emma Betts and McKinley Hendricks added points to extend the Rebel lead to 13-5 at the half.

Hendricks hit a three to start a 9-point, unanswered run in the third as the JV Lady Rebels led 22-5 going into the final quarter and captured the 23-10 win.

Chambers JV Boys

The JV boys opened up with a win as Bentley Terry hit the first basket of the season for the JV Rebels, and Braxton Terry followed with a three. The JV Rebels led 26-9 at the half.

Bentley Terry knocked down a three, and Tounchie Taylor returned it back down the court for a lay up to carry Chambers to a 38-21 win over Trinity.

Chambers Varsity Girls

After a slow start against Trinity, the varsity girls got hot in the second quarter posting 18 points and taking a 24-4 lead at the half. The defense continued to prevail in the second half as Chambers won the game 37-10. Samantha Lovelace led the Lady Rebels scoring seven points.

The varsity girls posted another big win, defeating Coosa Valley 64-22. Blakely Allen and Anna Kate Jackson led the offensive charge for the Lady Rebels with 15 points each.

After trailing 22-14 at the half against Southern, the Lady Rebels made a comeback in the third quarter with Anna Kate Jackson, Trenise Tigner and Blakely Allen all knocking down threes to cut the Cougar lead and only trail by five heading into the final period. Although Chambers outscored Southern in the fourth, the first half deficit was too much to overcome and the Lady Rebels fell 42-50.

A big first quarter where Lowndes scored 18 points propelled them to a 48-22 win over Chambers in the Lady Rebels’ final contest of the week.

Chambers Varsity Boys

After dropping the first game of the season 36-49 against Trinity, the Rebels bounced back with a 63-33 win over Coosa Valley. Braxton Terry led the Rebels with 14 points, followed by Christian Terry with 13 points and Cohan McDonald with nine. The winning continued for the Rebels with a 69-40 win over Southern. Christian and Braxton Terry once again led the Rebels with 17 points each. Jake Reames added 13 points of his own.

The Rebels finished out their week with a close 55-52 win over Lowndes. Although Chambers held a 34-22 lead at the half, Lowndes came surging back in the second half adding 15 points in each quarter while holding Chambers to only eight points in the fourth; however, the Rebels were able to keep their lead and claim the victory. Christian Terry had another big night with 19 points.
