Rebels receive post-season accolades

LAFAYETTE — The already decorated Rebel football team continues to add accolades to their full trophy case. Two Rebels have been recognized by the Alabama Sports Writers Association and are nominated for Mr. Football for 2025. Eli Whorton has been nominated for the AISA Lineman of the Year while Peyton Yerta is up for the AISA Back of the Year. The winner will be announced on Jan. 20 at the Mr. Football Banquet.

The Alabama Sports Writers Association also named several Rebels to the AISA All-State Team. Spencer Newman and Gabe Bridges were named first-team offensive linemen. Eli Whorton and Bryce Modling were both named to the first-team defense, and Peyton Yerta was recognized as a first-team athlete. Drew Sheppard received an honorable mention for the defensive line.

Ten Rebels were chosen to participate in the Gatlinburg Bowls. The games presented by Rocky Top Sports are exposure opportunities for private school athletes. Student-athletes from all over the southeast participated.

Bryce Modling, Kent Nelson, Spencer Newman, Jacob Bradley, Drew Sheppard, Eli Whorton, Gabe Bridges and Colton Fuller were all invited to participate in the Gatlinburg All-American Bowl. Trey Tigner was chosen to participate in the Rising Stars Game. Senior cheerleader MeLeah Tigner was also invited to cheer at the game.

Drew Sheppard was chosen as the Defensive MVP for the Gatlinburg All-American Bowl. This is the second time that Sheppard has been recognized, having received the honor in 2023 for the Rising Stars Game.
