Rebels slide into wins

LAFAYETTE — Chambers Academy’s softball and baseball teams picked up key wins this week, with the Lady Rebels defeating Lowndes Academy and the Rebels rolling to a run-rule victory over Ezekiel.

Lady Rebels Softball

After sweeping Coosa Valley 8-0 and 11-3 in an early week double header, Chambers hosted Lowndes Academy on Tuesday. Lowndes recorded two hits in the first inning to take an 0-1 lead. Chambers loaded up the bases in the bottom of the inning scoring two runs to take the lead. After holding Lowndes scoreless in the second and third, Ally Pascal doubled, and Tenley Benefield walked. Blakely Allen and Ansley Carter each knocked in a run to increase the Lady Rebel lead 4-1.

Lowndes tied it up in the top of the fifth at 4 all, but Madison Stanford knocked in a run in the bottom of the inning to regain the Rebel lead. Allen doubled, and Car- ter and Abigail Downey both singled to drive in two more runs. Sophie Price hit a sacrifice fly to give the Lady Rebels an 8-4 lead going into the final inning. Lown- des capitalized on two Chambers errors and sent in two runs, but Peyton Earl struck out two batters to seal the Lady Rebel win. Samantha Lovelace got the win on the mound.

Rebels Baseball

After dropping two close contests this week, a 3-5 game to Bessemer and a 2-3 game in extra innings to Lowndes, the Rebels bounced back with a win over Ezekiel. Chambers scored five runs in the top of the second. Hunter Andrews, Trip O’Donnell, and Landon Hand all singled in the inning while Phillip Belcher doubled and Tucker Thrower tripled.

The Rebels added another run in the third. O’Donnell doubled in the fourth as the Rebels took a 12-0 lead. Andrews drove in a final run to make the score 13-0 and force a run rule. Colton Fuller got the win on the mound striking out two and only giving up two hits.
