LAFAYETTE —  Chambers Academy’s basketball teams hosted Springwood on Friday night in a full slate of junior varsity and varsity action, with the Rebels and Lady Rebels facing tough competition across four games.

JV Girls

The Chambers JV Girls basketball team had their hands full on Friday night as they lost 14-46 to Springwood. Haiden Smith and Skylar Andrews were the leading scorers for the JV Lady Rebels with three points each.

JV Boys

The JV Rebels and JV Wildcats traded buckets to start the game, but then, it was all Chambers as they broke out to a 27-5 lead at the end of one. The Rebels continued to dominate on defense only giving up three points in the second to extend the lead 35-8 at the half.

Tounchie Taylor hit a three in the third, and Bentley Terry hit a pair of buckets. Cameron Feyen got hot at the end of the quarter knocking down two three pointers to give the JV Rebels a 56-11 lead at the end of the third. Benton Earl pulled a three to start off the fourth. Earl also ended the game with two layups to make the final 65-15.

Varsity Girls

The Lady Rebels hosted Springwood on Friday, and Trenise Tigner started the game with a three as Chambers went on a 7-0 run. Springwood chipped away and took a 10-14 lead at the end of one. The Lady Wildcats jumped out to a nine point lead midway through the second, but Chambers fought back keeping a close 22-23 at the half.

Chambers failed to put points on the board for over three minutes in the third period. Madison Stanford finally found the hoop, and Cate Allen followed up with a basket. Samantha Lovelace knocked down a three to bring the game within three, but Springwood took a 30-40 lead going into the final quarter.

The Lady Rebels took off on a 8-0 run to bring them within one basket to start the fourth. Springwood got up as many as six at the end of the game, but the Lady Rebels continued to give them all they could take, trailing by two  with 20 seconds left. With Springwood in possession, the Lady Rebels had to foul to get the ball back. They got it with three seconds left, but a half court shot missed, and the Lady Rebels fell 47-49.

Varsity Boys

The Rebels suffered their toughest week yet adding two losses which were both area games. After falling 70-79 to Southern Prep, the Rebels faced Springwood on Friday. A disastrous first quarter put the Rebels at a deficit too big to climb out of. Chambers had trouble breaking the press, and although they got many good shots off, they couldn’t find the net and found themselves trailing 5-22 at the end of the first.

The Rebels regrouped and were able to stay neck-and-neck with the Wildcats the rest of the game, but the hole dug was already too deep, and Chambers lost 55-73.
