The next Festival on the Square is Aug. 17
LANETT — The city of Lanett and the Valley Local are holding the next Festival on the Square on Aug. 17 from 3 to 6:30 p.m. EST, where community members can enjoy food trucks, bingo, vendors and more.
“It is a monthly community event that we co-host with the city of Lanett at the square,” said The Valley Local Director Sara Crutchfield. “Lanett closes the road, we have food trucks and vendors. It's just a day of fun.”
Crutchfield said that she enjoys seeing this event unite the community and create a space for locals to have fun togeth- er while also raising money to help the community.
“My community enjoys being able to enjoy food from the food trucks and just being out together, playing bingo and having a lot of fun,” she said. “Everyone enjoys seeing who's going to win the big prizes. There are always three big prizes, and everybody looks forward to winning. That's the fundraising part of the event for The Valley Local, so that we are able to give back to the community in different ways.”
Crutchfield said that her favorite thing to do at the Festival on the Square is to work bingo, and that through purchasing prizes from local businesses, she is able to support the local community.
“I enjoy calling bingo, so that is my job at the Festival on the Square, and I enjoy seeing everybody there, smiling and having fun,” she said. “I do enjoy being able to donate money back to departments, schools and buying prizes from small businesses as a way to support them. So that's our way of being able to support the small businesses and what we do as well.”
Along with fun and games, Crutchfield said the Festival on the Square builds relationships between those who attend.
“It brings the community together, builds relationships and lets people get to know one another and the other people that live in their community,” she said.
Crutchfield said she hopes events like the Festival on the Square cultivate a love for Chambers County and in- spire a love for the commu- nity in locals and the younger generations.
“I love Chambers County, I was born and raised here. Now I have children that my husband and I are now raising here. I just want it to be a place that they grow to love, just as I do,” she said. “I feel bringing events back in and having more events within the community just builds that love for the com- munity and the importance of involvement. It is very important to be involved in the community that you live in and have a way to give back by volunteering.”
