Valley City Council ends meeting by lighting city Christmas Tree

VALLEY — The Valley City Council moved through a light agenda Monday evening of Dec. 1, approving several resolutions and recognizing upcoming community events.
After approving the minutes from the previous meeting, the council heard updates from officers, department heads, council members and citizens during the communication portions of the meeting. Mayor’s communications and the routine account audits were also presented.
Council Approves Consent Agenda
- The council unanimously approved the consent agenda, which included:
• Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday for 2026, setting Valley’s participation for July 17–19, 2026 (Resolution 2025-159R). The Sales Tax Holiday will begin at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026, and end at midnight on Sunday, July 19, 2026.
•Authorizing the presentation of the badge and service weapon of Mike Reynolds upon retirement (Resolution 2025-160R).
• Determination of violation and authorization of action regarding property at 5419 25th Place, known as the Hodges property (Resolution 2025-161R). The Code Enforcement Officer of the city shall coordinate an effort to go upon the property and clean the property utilizing city services or contracting for the service. After completion of this work, the Code Enforcement Officer shall render an itemized report to the Council showing the cost incurred in abating the nuisance and a lien shall be placed on the property for the cost.
Project Agreement Approved
Under the regular agenda, the council approved Resolution 2025-162R, authorizing a project agreement with Newmor Construction LLC. As part of the agreement the city of Valley agrees to construct a cul-de-sac on property previously sold by the city to Newmor in return for Newmor annexing other property it owns adjacent to Cleveland Road into the city and constructing additional homes on said property.
Announcements
Mayor and council members reminded the public that the next Valley City Council meeting will be held Monday, Dec. 8 at 6 p.m. at Valley City Hall. A retirement reception honoring Police Chief Mike Reynolds will take place prior to the meeting.
Following the meeting, the Mayor, City Council and others proceeded to officially kick off the holiday season with the lighting of the city’s Christmas tree and singing of Christmas carols.
