Valley City Council proclaims 25th annual Day of Prayer

VALLEY — District 4 Council Member Desmond Reece read a proclamation during the July 27 Valley City Council meeting recognizing the 25th anniversary of the annual Chambers County Day of Prayer.

Reece was joined by Elder Reginald Dunn for the presentation. The Chambers County Day of Prayer will be held Aug. 7.

“We must continue to work together in unity and love by praying for Chambers County and our nation,” Reece said. “We urge all citizens to join together in praying for our leaders, our nation and our state as a whole so that in the spirit of trust, cooperation and goodwill, we all may beseech God for the strength and wisdom to make Chambers County a better place in which to live.”

 Dunn thanked city leaders, family members and community supporters for helping continue the Chambers County Day of Prayer tradition. 

“Thank you all,” Dunn said. “I also want to thank the city council and mayor of LaFayette who are so diligent in helping us to make sure we get chairs and get all the necessities that we need out there to serve the community on this day of prayer. I am so grateful for them.

“I want to thank also my family, my wife, my mom, my church family [and] my pastor. I want to thank them. They play a vital part in helping us come together to create this day, to make it be what it is.

“Prayer is one of the main things we need, not just today, but we have been in deep prayer. I also want to acknowledge Diane Perry, who started this back in 2001, Sept. 6. We are 25 years in. I am grateful that we are still going strong, we are still praying.”

In other business, the council:

Approved an alcohol application for FJS Sports Lounge LLC.

Heard from Suzie Britt, who appeared on behalf of the Valley Historic Preservation Committee to request that each council member appoint a resident from his or her district to serve on the committee.

Approved the consent agenda, which included streetlight agreements for 67th Street and Ben Brown Road; a determination of public nuisance and authorization of action against property at 1411 Columbus Road; weed liens on four properties; budget amendments for a police department vehicle purchase; authorization for repairs to a park bench at Langdale Fountain Park; and the Auburn game day agreement.

Approved the purchase of property at 7486 School St. from Richard Wallace.
