VALLEY — City of Valley Parks and Recreation Director Jon Neal recognized the achievements of local swimmers and awarded them with a certificate at the Valley City Council meeting on Monday.
“We’re going to recognize our APRA state medalist,” he said. “The swim team, a couple of weeks ago, went up to North Alabama, and 28 medaled. Head coach Caitlin Turner is going to give them a certificate as we call them in here.”
Valley Parks and Rec Aquatics Manager Bobby Poer said the hard work of the swimmers and their coach is making waves for future swimmers.
“What we are recognizing here is the excellent job that these swimmers did to represent the city of Valley in our District 5 Parks and Recreation Swim Tournament,” he said. “Twenty-eight of our 40 that we sent to district went on to qualify for the state championships, which I’m sure that you’ve seen the social media post of how well we did there, bringing home our first-ever team trophy from state.”
