VALLEY — An indoor market for all, the Christmas in Valley Treasure Hunt is on Dec. 13 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET at the Valley Community Center.

“This is a special event,” said President of the Valley Arts Council Suzie Britt. “A lot of our members have wanted to have a couple of really nice Christmas events, and this year is our 25th anniversary, so I thought it would be great to have two different Christmas events. The Christmas in Valley Treasure Hunt is the first one; it's going to be held at the Valley Community Center in the gym, and we've got 40 different vendors. It's always free to the public, and it's always family-friendly. We have door prizes, and there's going to be all kinds of great things there to eat.”

Britt said the purpose behind this event is to unite families and organizations to share their artisanal crafts and creations with the community.

“It was designed to encourage families, friends, clubs and organizations to work together, and they can all come in as a group under one entry fee,” she said. “It's a $25 entry fee, and we thought it'd be a fun Christmas idea to just encourage groups to come in and [sell their crafts] together, because a lot of people these days do arts and crafts — especially together.”

At the Christmas in Valley Treasure Hunt, Britt said there will be a wide range of vendors and crafts to shop from, creating the perfect atmosphere for visitors to purchase holiday decor and gifts from local artisans.

“We've got every type of craft,” she said. “And these are fine crafts, not made from kits or anything. We're going to have beautiful ornaments, any kind of Christmas decor you can think of, jewelry, a t-shirt person and a person who creates hats — who will have a hat bar set up. We're also going to have a lot of different art, artisan baskets, another woman who creates beautiful stationery that would make great gifts and it just goes on and on — just anything you can imagine. That's why we're calling it a treasure

hunt, because there's going to be all kinds of goodies there and there, and maybe some antiques.”

Britt said the Valley Arts Council is also holding a Christmas Merry Go Round Market day on Dec. 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET, and she hopes locals will be able to attend one or both events and support local artists.

“We've got our farmers market pavilion that's right up next to the Merry Go Round, and we're going to have our Merry Go Round Market Day there,” she said. “It's going to be really nice. And the Merry Go Round is going to be going at the same time, we've got lights up at the Pavilion and it's going to be really festive and fun.”
