VALLEY — Valley Parks and Recreation is holding two Easter celebrations for local families to get out and have fun.

The Valley Parks and Rec Easter Egg Hunt will be on Saturday, April 4, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. EST at the Shawmut Airport. There will be Easter Bunny photos, food trucks, face painting and a coloring station. The event is free, but an RSVP is required and can be completed until the morning of the event. Visit the Valley Parks and Rec Facebook or the Day Smart App to register.

Valley Parks and Rec Program Coordinator Annabel Thompson said families can register children for their respective age groups to ensure every child can have a great experience.

“It’s going to be divided up by ages, so you’re going to have to check in and get your colored wristband,” she said. “It’s going to go by different times, so that if you’ve got younger and older children, the parents can watch them hunt and not have to be looking both ways. The toddlers are going to go first, then ages four to six, then ages seven to 11 and we do have an older age group for the teenagers.

“There’s going to be food trucks, a Travelin’ Tom’s drink truck, Kona Ice and we have somebody who’s doing normal lunchtime food. Since it ends right at 11:30 a.m., that’s a perfect time to eat lunch before you go home, and we’ll have an Easter Bunny. He’s going to be there hanging out with everyone and taking pictures. It’s not a super long event, but it’s going to be packed full to keep everybody entertained for that hour and a half.”

Thompson said she has heard a positive community response from families who are excited to attend.

“I think people are really excited,” she said. “I think this is the first time our department has done an Easter egg hunt, so we’re excited to see how it goes. I’m sure there will be a couple of kinks, but that just means we can improve for next year. I think people are super excited to come. We’ve got toys, candy, eggs and I’ve got little Easter Bunny stuffies for our little ones. So I think people are really excited — I know I’m super excited.”

Valley Parks and Rec is also holding an Easter Splash Hunt on Thursday, April 2, from
6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Valley Community Center pool for ages four to 12. Registration is required; visit Valley Parks and Rec on Facebook or Rec Desk to register.

“This one is in the evening, so after school gets out or after work, you can come — it’s going
to be in the pool here at the community center,” Thompson said. “We’re going to throw a bunch of eggs in. We’re going to try and sink some so the older kids can dive down and grab those. The Easter Bunny may be there too, and then we’re going to have a coloring table. We’re going to have little games that you play on the pool deck, we’re going to put a bunch of eggs up on the walls and stuff, and say, ‘Everybody go try and find a purple egg’ or things like that. That’s going to be an hour and a half to hang out. And then towards the end of it, they can just have free play in the pool. So that’s going to be really fun.”
