VALLEY — The Valley Police Department held a recognition ceremony for the retirement of outgoing Police Chief Mike Reynolds as well as the swearing in for new Police Chief Stacy Shirey at the Dec. 8 council meeting. Chief Reynolds gave his final report to the council at the beginning of the meeting.

“For my final report as the department head,” he said. “With the upcoming holidays, I just want to remind everybody to, please, take care. Don’t leave valuables locked in your vehicle where they are in plain sight. My detectives have enough to do already without having to work car break-ins. Lock valuables in the trunk. On Christmas Day, when you get those nice big TVs and the computers, don’t put the boxes outside, it just lets the thieves know what new toys you have got, and they come back later when you are out of the house to break them down. I wish everyone a good holiday, a safe holiday season and a good new year.”

Chief Reynolds was presented with a plaque commemorating his service to the city as well as his service weapon. Chambers County Probate Court Judge Paul Story then swore in new VPD Chief Shirey. Shirey gave a brief statement noting that reaching this new position is a goal he has worked for his entire life and that he is eager to take on his new role as police chief on Jan. 1.
