Chambers Competition Cheer Team earns bid to nationals

CHAMBERS COUNTY — Chambers Academy’s inaugural competition cheer team received a bid to the UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship at the Magic City Regional in Birmingham over the weekend. Chambers competed in the Gameday Competition which is a three minute routine comprised of a band chant, a crowd leading section and a fight song.
In order to compete at the National High School Cheerleading Championship, teams must qualify at a regional competition. Chambers competed against 11 public and private teams from Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee and earned a sixth place finish. Their score put them high enough to qualify for the national competition.
The UCA NHSCC will be held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida Jan. 30 through Feb. 1.
Team members are Kayla Howard, Skylar Andrews, Tatum Marshall, MeLeah Tigner, Halle Hurst, Talley Carter, Alyssa Reaves, Layken Taylor, Emmalee Jackson, Anna Kate Jackson, Cate Allen, Cambryn Still, Trenise Tigner, Samantha Lovelace, Sydney Carter and Ansley Carter. Not pictured Jersy Richardson.
The competition team is coached by Katie McElvy and Laurie Phillips.
