LAFAYETTE — Event organizer Pamelar Holloway addressed the LaFayette City Council on Monday evening to share plans for her upcoming “Taking It Back to Da Streetz: Dancing for a Cure” health fair.

“I want to talk tonight about our fourth annual all-cancers ‘Taking It Back to the Streetz: Dancing for a Cure’ health fair, which will be Sunday, Nov. 2, at 3 p.m. — same place, same time, downtown LaFayette,” Holloway said. “This event is to spread awareness and educate everyone on how important it is to know about different types of cancer. We’ll be giving out health information and making our regular donations to cancer patients.”

Holloway explained that one of her favorite traditions, giving away gas cards to cancer patients and caregivers, will continue this year.

“We’ll be doing gas cards again this year — that’s something I really enjoy,” she said. “We’ve been able to give them to more people. Believe it or not, there are a lot of people in our area dealing with cancer, and we’re able to spread the love more with gas cards. This year we also have a lot of vendors joining us. Of course, our One Step Nation Line Dance Crew will be there, and Tera McCarty will be leading Zumba.”

Holloway also highlighted several community partnerszsupporting the event, including Leah’s Lemonade, LaFayette Main Street, the Chambers County Health and Wellness Center, Wipe Out Cervical Cancer, East Alabama Health, Unity Wellness Center, the Alabama Department of Public Health Cancer Prevention and Control Division, The LaFayette Sun and the Auburn University Alabama Extension Office.

“We’d like to invite everyone to come out, support and be part of this event,” she said.

Following her remarks, the council voted unanimously to approve a proclamation recognizing the “Dancing for a Cure” health fair for its positive impact on community health awareness.
