CHAMBERS COUNTY — The Valley Local is holding its annual Back 2 School Bash on Aug. 1 at 4 p.m. CT at the Valley Rams Stadium.

“The goal of this event is to rotate the location to each school, so each school can be a host throughout Chambers County,” The Valley Local Director Sara Crutchfield said. “We want to invite everyone of all ages to come out. The cheerleaders will be participating in some competition games with each school, where prizes could be won for them to get different pre-game meal certificates, so that way we can help cover the cost of a pre-game meal for the teams that win. The football players will be participating in some things as well. The dance teams are coming; they’re going to perform a dance for everyone from the schools as well.”

Crutchfield said sponsorships from local businesses for the Back 2 School Bash will help support student education and athletics.

“We do get sponsors for this event, and the sponsors allow us to purchase the items needed to host the event, advertise the event, all of that, but also it allows us to be able to make a donation to each athletic department of the participating schools,” she said. “There’s a lot of expense that comes with athletics, and so we want to help the schools because we know how important it is for children to stay active and not sit in rooms on phones.”

A place for student fun, Crutchfield said the students enjoy gathering for a fun event to celebrate the start of a new school year.

“The schools and students really enjoy it, and it’s just fun” she said. “Last year, Lanett won the spirit stick, and we will have a spirit stick again this year, so at the end of the event the team with the most spirit gets to keep the spirit stick and the bragging rights until the next year. It’s exciting and fun, and we hope that everyone comes out.”

Along with fun for the schools, Crutchfield said she enjoys seeing the community gather as one to support students.

“This is an opportunity for everyone to really just be kids and a part of the community, and to see that we are truly one community together,” she said. “We might play against one another, in those moments cheering for our team, but, at the end of the day, we’re all Chambers County as a whole. I think it’s just great for everyone to be able to just be together and have fun together, and that is truly what builds a community, and it keeps people bonding. We get to be here and be proud of where we’re from. We get to celebrate that we have so much to be positive about in Chambers County.”
