LAFAYETTE — LaFayette High School alumni will have the chance to take the field and experience the bright Friday night lights at Bulldog Stadium once again.
On Friday, July 24, the school will host its first-ever alumni 7-on-7 event to help support the Bulldogs’ athletic teams.
LHS head football coach Douglas Jones Jr. said he was looking forward to hosting his fellow alumni at the event and that he expected a great turnout.
“I’m very excited to have it,” Jones said. “I want to get some old heads out there so people can see how they’re doing now. I think it’ll be great for the community to see all of us come together for a fundraiser [for the athletic department] and just have a fun communitywide event.”
Jones said the event was his idea, inspired by listening to longtime community members swap stories, joke with one another and reminisce about their glory days.
Thinking it could be a fun way to bring people together, Jones ran the idea past a friend, who encouraged him to move forward.
Jones said he plans to make the gathering an annual event, giving the community a chance to come out and have safe, wholesome fun.
“We tried to have something when I tried to play some ball years back, I think probably in 2014 or sometime around then,” Jones said. “But I don’t think it was a fundraiser, it was just something fun.”
Jones said some light and playful trash talk has already begun as those already interested in participating begin talking amongst themselves.
“We’ll definitely have some old heads out there to show off and see if they’ve still got it,” Jones said. “Hopefully no one breaks anything or injures themselves, but with the competitive spirit they have, I think this’ll be great for them. I’ve talked to several guys, and they’re ready for it.”
The game will take place at Bulldog Stadium on July 24 at 6 p.m. CT and feature a live DJ and concessions for attendees to enjoy.
Teams are required to pay a $100 entry fee and have at least 10 players who are LHS alumni, with no exceptions. General admission will be $5.
