FOR THE LAFAYETTE SUN

LANETT — The long-awaited rematch of the One Team, One Goal Alumni Basketball Game took place Friday, July 10, inside a packed Lanett gym, and the atmosphere was everything fans hoped for. The energy was electric, the rivalry was alive and every seat was filled as LaFayette and Lanett renewed one of Chambers County’s greatest basketball traditions.

With community pride on the line, former standouts once again laced up their sneakers to represent their hometowns in front of an enthusiastic crowd that never stopped cheering from tip-off to the final buzzer.

The LaFayette Alumni team, coached by JJ Finley, featured Corey Boston, Tae Burton, Booman Harrington, Tae Story, Dra Vines, Jordan Johnson, Dee Mackey, Shaq Woody, Boobee Whitlow, Ocho Whitlow and newcomer Trevond Barnes.

The alumni representing Lanett were Manny Little, Kin Kin Dozier, Bryant Story, Dee Dobbs, Kay Kay Atkinson, Long Pollard, Tra Abner, Fred Broughton, Keondae Huguley, Josh Patton and La La Whitfield, and coached by Mkai Potts.

LaFayette came out with intensity and controlled much of the first half, taking a 44-37 lead going into halftime. That momentum continued into the second half as LaFayette entered the fourth quarter with a 63-59 advantage.

Lanett refused to go away. With 8:11 remaining in the fourth quarter, the game was tied at 66-66, bringing the crowd to its feet. Just a few minutes later, with 4:45 left to play, neither team had gained any separation as the scoreboard showed a 74-74 tie, creating even more drama inside the packed gym. Every possession became critical as both teams traded baskets in a thrilling back-and-forth battle.

From that point on, LaFayette took control. Veteran standout Boston put on an offensive clinic, seemingly knocking down everything he touched and providing the leadership his team needed during the game’s biggest moments. Barnes then caught fire late in the contest, delivering timely baskets that helped LaFayette pull away and silence the Lanett comeback.

When the final buzzer sounded, LaFayette had completed its mission with a 96-87 victory, reclaiming the bragging rights in one of the county’s fiercest rivalries.

The rematch once again showcased why the LaFayette-Lanett rivalry remains one of the most exciting traditions in local sports. Fans witnessed outstanding performances, competitive basketball and two proud communities coming together to celebrate the game they love.

With each team now owning a victory in this memorable alumni series, one question remains:

Who wants the rubber match?
