LAFAYETTE — Chambers Academy softball and baseball competed in a tournament with nine other teams, with double-elemination stakes.

Lady Rebels Softball

The Lady Rebels had a successful week on the diamond as they took three area games against Success Unlimited, outscoring their opponents 46-0 in the three game series. Chambers then entered a weekend tournament featuring nine teams and hosted by Macon-East Montgomery Academy. In a double elimination format, the Lady Rebels won the first game over Lowndes 8-1. A highlight of the contest was an Allie Paschal home run in the bottom of the fourth.

Chambers then faced a solid Ezekiel Academy team that put up a fight. The Lady Knights jumped out to an 3-0 lead in the first, but Chambers settled in in the second and sent in two runs off hits from Abbigail Downey, Tenley Benefield and Samantha Lovelace. Paschal homered for the second time in the tournament in the top of the third to tie it 3-3.

Benefield and Blakely Allen hit back-to-back triples in the fifth to take a 7-3 lead. Ezekiel tied it up in the bottom of the fifth to send the game into extra innings. With two runners on, Emmalee Jackson doubled to give Chambers an 8-7 lead. Peyton Earl then hit a double of her own to send in two more scores. The field then went to work only allowing one run and sealing the 10-8 win. Samantha Lovelace got the win on the mound.

Chambers started the second day of the tournament with a 3-2 loss to Macon-East to send them to the loser’s racket. Paschal did record her third home run of the tournament in the game. Chambers then had to once again face Ezekiel. Benefield, Allen, Paschal and Madison Davis all doubled in the game to propel the Lady Rebels to an 8-0 win and the championship game. Peyton Earl got the win on the mound, striking out nine batters.

Due to the double elimination format, Chambers had to face unbeaten Macon-East twice to take home the trophy. With bases loaded in the top of the third, Allen slammed one over the center field wall, helping the Lady Rebels earn a huge 16-1 victory and force a second game. Benefield got the win on the mound striking out four and only allowing three hits.

Benefield threw a no hitter in the championship game while the Lady Rebels’ bats were hot, winning the game 10-0.
