LAFAYETTE — The Chambers Academy varsity volleyball team continued its good start this season, adding two matches to the win column last week following a home-and-away series against Lakeside School.

The Lady Rebels (5-2) picked up the first win over the Lady Chiefs (0-4) in three sets, winning 25-13, 25-18 and 25-9 in LaFayette on Aug. 23

In their return trip to Eufala on Aug. 27, Chambers defeated Lakeside 3-1 in another dominant performance.

Standouts in the games were Maddie Gatlin with 10 kills and two solo blocks; Blakely Allen with eight kills, a solo block, three block assists and two digs; Cate Allen with six aces and three kills; Samantha Lovelace with four aces, two kills, a block assist and six digs; and Sydney Carter with four aces, a kill and four digs.

Lady Rebels head coach David Howard said he’s been most pleased with his team’s chemistry, versatility and players’ willingness to have a friendly competition for playing time.

Howard added Chambers will look to stay within its system and play good, clean volleyball as the season continues ramping up.

“I feel like we’ve got a really strong team,” Howard said of his defensive-minded squad. “I think that we’ll be at least in the [quarterfinals], and hopefully we’re going to make the [semifinals]. That’s what we’re shooting for.”

The next varsity match is set for Thursday, Sept. 3, against Hooper Academy in Hope Hull.
