CLARA MAE FANT

Clara Mae Fant, 94, of LaFayette, passed away on Aug. 25, 2026, at her residence.

She was born in Chambers County on Nov. 29, 1931, to the late McKinley and Winnie Aikens Hay.

She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.

Clara Mae worked at Playtex until it closed, then retired from the Russell Corp. in LaFayette. She also worked at Buds-N-Blossoms Flower Shop for many years as well as Colonial Bank.

Clara Mae is survived by two daughters, Carol Brown and Judy Garsee (John) Penn; brothers, Phillip Wayne Hay and Ronnie Hay; grandchildren, Michelle Abernathy, Carol Ann Sides, Nicki (Cameron “Bubba”) Freeman and Robert Hancock; great-grandchildren, Autumn (Mallory) Hancock, Amber (Ronald) Hurst, Michael (Kelsey) Abernathy, Ansley (Jordan Boddie) Moon and Cameron Freeman; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Hollis Fant.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Aug. 28, at Shiloh Baptist Church in LaFayette, with the Rev. Chuck Goodwin officiating. The burial followed at the church’s cemetery. 

Jeff Jones Funeral Home in LaFayette assisted the family with the arrangements.
