Chambers County School Board honors students, retirees

CHAMBERS COUNTY — At the Wednesday, May 20, Chambers County School Board Meeting, the board recognized students and retirees.
The top three students from LaFayette and Valley high schools were recognized by the board for their academic achievement.
Valley High School:
1. Lyric Sturges
2. Elianys Semprun Molero
3. Kaien Henderson
LaFayette High School:
1. La’Jada McCollough
2. Ny’Torrianna McCudry
3. Amilleon Huguley
Two retirees were unable to attend the previous meeting where retirees were recognized, and were presented their plaques and recognized at the meeting. Ellen Emfinger is retiring after 33 years of employment at Chambers County Schools, and Roger Walker is retiring after 10 years.
In other business
• The board approved the amended agenda.
• The board approved the minutes of the May 13 board meeting.
• The board approved surplus items from the Bus Stop Annex, Valley High School and Inspire Academy.
• The board approved the monthly financial statement from April 2026.
• The board approved changes to the Student Code of Conduct for 2026-2027.
• The board approved the budget amendment 2026-01.
• The board voted to approve an executive session to discuss the job performance of personnel who are not elected or appointed public officials and are not required to file a statement of economic interest.
• The board approved returning to regular session.
• The board voted to approve termination(s) of non-tenured certified staff, probationary classified staff and supplements for certified staff.
• The board approved the routine personnel changes.
