Chambers County track and field athletes compete at state meets

CHAMBERS COUNTY — Athletes from high schools in Chambers County competed at the state track and field meets in Cullman and Gulf Shores on April 30 through May 2, with Lanett High School leading the way.

Lanett’s Chloe Jones captured the 2A girls 100-meter hurdles title and added a second-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles. The Lady Panthers also took first place in the 2A girls 4x100-meter relay.

Down in Gulf Shores, Valley High School posted two third-place finishes in Class 5A, with Rylee Pace taking third in the girls long jump and Kason Varner finishing third in the boys 200-meter sprint.

While LaFayette High School did not place any athletes in the top three, the Bulldogs still made noise in Cullman with several top-10 finishes.

In the 2A boys high jump, Jayden Thomason finished fourth and Kemare Harrington took seventh. Harrington also placed ninth in the long jump, where teammate Cameron Thomas finished 10th.

Jaiden Lacey notched a pair of top-10 finishes in boys hurdles, placing eighth in the 110-meter hurdles and ninth in the 300-meter hurdles.

In the boys shot put, Ty’Kayden Williams finished fourth and Tyquavious Gates placed ninth.
