LAFAYETTE — The LaFayette High School softball team’s season ended with 30-19 and 20-4 defeats to Loachapoka High School in the 2A Area 6 tournament in Reeltown on May 4.
With those results officially in the books, the Lady Bulldogs conclude their 2026 campaign with an 0-8 record, while the Lady Indians advanced to the regional tournament sitting at 6-8.
While LHS did not win a game this year, their progress as both individual players and a team throughout the season was evident.
LHS head coach Megan Agee said that despite the difficulties at times, she was extremely proud of her players’ attitudes and dedication they showed.
“I’m super proud of them as always because it’s hard for any smaller school that doesn’t really have any feeder programs to be able to [offer] a sport that kind of requires you starting at a young age,” Agee said. “So I appreciate these girls coming out in high school, not really knowing what to expect, and at least giving me that effort to show up, be present and come to practice for the most part.”
The first game of the day showcased most of the improvements. When it came to hitting, Carly Laborde notched an inside-the-park home run, Savannah Luse had a triple and Makayla Mayfield recorded a two-RBI single during a bases-loaded situation.
On the mound, Luse also showed much improved control in her first year as a pitcher with numerous strikeouts.
“They definitely have shown improvement, even from the few girls I had from last year,” Agee said. “Our team is still a new team. Some of them have only played for two years, and for others this is their first year. So it’s a huge accomplishment for them to even put up runs, throw strikes and just do the basic stuff that they were able to do.”
