LAFAYETTE — Peyton Yerta took to the ground picking up two first downs before scoring the touchdown in Chambers’ opening drive at Fort Dale last Friday. A Kaisen Nix PAT put the Rebels up early.

Hunter Andrews threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Coby Whatley for the Rebels’ next score, and Chambers took a 13-0 lead midway through the first quarter.

Fort Dale then strung together a promising drive, but Sam Smith picked off a pass to give Chambers back the ball. Eli Whorton and Yerta traded totes with Whorton punching in the touchdown, putting Chambers up 19-0 to start the second quarter.

After forcing a punt, Andrews found Whatley for a 70-yard touchdown. Jack Nelms converted for two extra points making the score 27--0.

Nelms turned on the jets for the Rebels’ next score going 75 yards to the endzone. The Nix PAT was good.

Fifty yards of passing from Andrews to Whatley and a run by Whorton set up the next Yerta touchdown. The PAT was good, and Chambers took a 41-0 lead into halftime.

Trey Tigner recorded an interception to give the ball to Chambers for their final drive of the game. Passes to Aiden Tilly and Tristan Ayers put the Rebels’ in position for another Yerta touchdown, making the final score 47-0.

The Rebel offense accumulated 555 total yards. It was a balanced effort with 280 yards of rushing offense and 275 yards of passing offense. Hunter Andrews was 11 for 15 on passing attempts. Cobie Whatley was his top target with 4 receptions for 136 yards. Aiden Tilley followed with 6 receptions for 115 yards. Peyton Yerta led on the ground with 98 yards on 14 carries.

“I thought we played our most complete game of the season offensively,” said head coach Jason Allen.

I really challenged them after the Lowndes game as I thought we played poorly and left some points on the field. We were able to be much more balanced and take advantage of some things in the passing game. It was encouraging to see”

Bryce Modling and Colton Fuller led the defense with 7 tackles each. Kent Nelson followed with 5 tackles.

“Defensively, we continued to play lights out,” Allen said. “We have now thrown three consecutive shutouts.”

The Rebels will travel to Tallahassee, Florida, to take on MaClay for their first ever match up in the state. MaClay is currently 5-1 on the season and will be a tough opponent for the Rebels.

“It will be a strong test for us, but we are excited about the opportunity,” Allen said. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
