In the high school division, Anna Kate Jackson won second in Scientific Inquiry and will move on to state. Ansley Reeves got third in the same category. Trip O’Donnell and Abigail Downey tied for third in Reverse Engineering. Hadley Sharpe and Addison Tenpenny tied for third in Science Fiction.
AISA State Science Fair
Two Chambers Academy sixth graders placed at this year’s AISA State Science Innovation Expo held in Montgomery. Harper Hudmon won first place in Middle School Invention and Innovation for her project “Sugar Rush.” Sugar Rush is a game that Harper invented to teach others about diabetes. Collyns Fuller placed second in Middle School Reverse Engineering for her project where she dissected an LG flip phone and displayed the parts while explaining how the phone works.
National High School Cheerleading
Championship
The Universal Cheerleaders Association hosted the DII National High School Cheerleading Championship over the weekend at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida. The Chambers Academy Competition Cheer Team participated in the Small Varsity Non-Tumbling Gameday Division which consisted of 84 teams from all over the United States. To compete in DII, schools must have less than 1,400 students in grades nine through 12.
In order to participate, Chambers had to earn a bid at a regional competition. They earned that bid last November in Birmingham. Having spent the last two months perfecting their routine which consisted of a band chant, crowd leading section and fight song, the team took the stage in the preliminary competition on Friday. The squad scored a season high 86.7 on their routine and advanced to the semi-final competition on Saturday. Although they did not advance to the finals on Sunday, the team finished in the top 36 in the nation, which is an incredible feat for their first year to compete. Team members are Talley Carter, Kayla Howard, Halle Hurst, Meleah Tigner, Cate Allen, Ansley Carter, Anna Kate Jackson, Alyssa Reaves, Cambryn Still, Sydney Carter, Samantha Lovelace, Layken Taylor, Trenise Tigner, Emmalee Jackson, Skylar Andrew, Tatum Marshall and Jersy Richardson.
