Commission recognizes employee

CHAMBERS COUNTY — At the June 22 Chambers County Commission Meeting, the commission recognized a county employee and approved regular business.
Patricia Woody, senior transportation coordinator for Chambers County, recognized Willean Heard for 10 years of service.
“I'm here today to recognize one of our drivers, Miss Willean Heard,” she said. “Miss Heard is a kind and dedicated employee. She reaches you with a smile and carries herself in a very professional manner. She has done a wonderful job helping the elderly and disabled citizens of Chambers County. I would like to honor her by presenting this certificate of appreciation for 10 years of service.”
In other business
• The commission approved the minutes and warrants payable.
• The commission approved an amended agenda for the June 22 meeting.
• The commission voted to reappoint Chief Matt Shiver to the 911 EMA Board for the four-year term, expiring June 2029, and waive the second reading of said reappointment.
• The commission voted to provide the Chambers County retirees and beneficiaries of deceased retirees a one-time longevity bonus in October 2026.
• The commission voted to reappoint Lunn Coker to the 911 EMA Board for a four-year term expiring June 2030 and waive the second reading of said appointment.
• The commission approved an expansion tax abatement for Hester Tag & Label.
• The commission voted to assist the town of Waverly with the installation of signs.
• The commission voted to participate in the joint application with 16 additional Alabama counties for the Bridge Investment Program grant funding opportunity through the USDOT for the replacement of the 52-foot bridge built in 1951 over Stroud Creek on Country Road 197, BIN004177, Structure No. 297-09-038X.
• The commission approved the 911 contract for dispatch services negotiations and authorized the sheriff to sign on behalf of the commission.
The next regularly scheduled Commission Meeting will be held in the small courtroom at 4 p.m. CST on Monday, July 13.
