Zoning takes stage at Valley council

VALLEY — Proposals for two properties to be rezoned were a main priority at the Valley City Council meeting on Monday, June 22. Each property was the subject of their own separate public hearing with the first related to zoning the property between “Wetlands” and thirtieth street to R-1 (low density residential district). Planning and Development Director Reid Riley provided context for the property.

"It is kind of behind Chambley's," he said. "You go several hundred yards back and that is where it will continue across the second wetlands. It will go from there all the way to thirtieth street. It will tie into what we know as Todd Addition. All Todd Addition is zoned R1 and that is what we are zoning this property as well."

Following that discussion, there was a brief public hearing on rezoning the property at the corner of Columbus Road and Myhand Street from R-4 (medium density residential district) to I (institution district). Riley commented on that property being rezoned as well. 

"Revenant Worship Center has requested that the lot next to them that they own be zoned the same as the church which is an I," he said. "The planning commission also voted to allow them to change that zoning so that is their recommendation."

In other business

• An item from the consent agenda was moved to the regular agenda which was related to a budget amendment for the increased cost of replacing doors at a Parks and Recreation facility. That item became its own separate resolution that was approved.

• There was a resolution to confirm an updated policy regarding the procedure for handling grants which was approved.

• Each of the two properties being rezoned addressed by the public hearings earlier in the meeting were the subjects of resolutions which were approved.

• There was a motion which was approved authorizing the sale of property and execution of a project agreement — Project Bear pending the approval by the city attorney.
