Empowering Chambers County students for success

The Chambers County 1st Annual Summer 25’ Youth Empowerment Conference was held on Saturday, July 26, at the Valley Community Center in Valley, Alabama. The conference brought together over 145 children from the valley community and surrounding areas. The conference kicked off at 10 a.m. EST and ended at 2 p.m. “Huge thanks to my youth coordinator, Lasheta Newton, for helping me to organize the Summer Youth Empowerment Conference,” said Tiffany Jones, CEO-Founder. Jones organized a program for the youths called “Power Of The Youth” to encourage the students that it’s ok to be different and still excel. “Thanks to all of the Speakers: Dr. Sharon Weldon, Reco Newton, Dr. Tolandra

Harris, LaFayette Police Officer Malike Jones, Ministry Kathy Dowdell, Chris Heard, Elijah Roberts and Tiffany Jones ... all was on the agenda to speak and inspire the students. Our youth need our support, guidance and positive role models.

I believe our community can make a difference by adding more fun activities, leadership opportunities and support systems to help them thrive. Our conference focused on key areas like education, faith, building confidence, staying out of

trouble, respect and responsibility — essential life skills for our youth to succeed,” Jones said. There were free school supplies given out. A certificate of participation was given out to each student and gifts. After learning the details of the conference, the students got to enjoy games and activities such as tug-of-war, bounce house, face paint, limbo, music chairs, ball toss, ring toss, ping pong tables, basketball and a dance contest. The Valley city mayor, Mr. Riley, was in attendance along with a few city council members. PHOTOS BY PAMELA HOLLOWAY, THE LAFAYETTE SUN
