LANETT — The Huguley Elementary PTO is holding a Huguley Hollow event on Sept. 6 where the community can shop local small businesses while giving back to Huguley Elementary.
“There’s not a fee for just attending,” said Huguley Elementary PTO Vice President MaryJane Scott. “You can come to shop, hang out, walk around and see what all we have going on and even if you don’t want to shop you can come eat at the local food trucks. It’s just going to be a huge event. It’s going to be at Huguley Elementary School from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. EST.”
Scott said the money raised from the Huguley Hollow event will go to support Huguley Elementary.
“We are doing it as a little fundraiser for our PTO, as we give back to Huguley Elementary with different events like duty-free lunches, teacher appreciation week, events and incentives for students and things like that,” she said.
For small businesses who enjoy setting up booths at community events, Huguley Elementary PTO is still accepting vendors for the event.
“For the businesses that want to set up, they can bring their tent, chairs and tables, and it’s a $40 fee,” she said. “We’re trying to find more vendors and I’m trying to gear it toward things for the children to do.”
Scott said those who attend the event can expect to explore handmade items, local small businesses, food trucks and activities.
“We’re going to have food trucks and stuff so people can come out to shop and eat, but we’re also going to have vendors who sell crafts and handmade items,” she said.
With the Huguley Hollow event catering to local businesses, Scott said this event is a great opportunity for locals to begin Christmas shopping while supporting the community and Huguley Elementary.
“People can come out and get different items for Christmas or the holidays,” she said. “There’s going to be a couple of people doing shirts that people can get for fall and winter. So we are trying to gear it more so people can visit and get some Christmas shopping done while still supporting local businesses.”
Along with creating a fun community event to support local commerce, Scott said she ultimately wants to give back to the community.
“My biggest thing is giving back to the community, because the community has given to our schools,” she said. “I want to gear more things around giving to the community and involving the community more when it comes to different events that we’re going to be doing.”
